10 Best Outcomes of TEOTWAWKI

by tuyen

We all get so hung up on the negative aspects of TEOTWAWKI, so lets have a look at the other side.  Here is the scenario, grid Best Survival Blogdown, reason unknown, no help coming.  Does it matter why the grid is down, maybe.  If aliens are storm trooping through the Midwest then the answer is yes, survival takes on a different tone, think Falling Skies.  If it is a computer bug, pandemic, or solar flare then the future looks different, we might have a chance at regrouping.  If it is Zombies….all bets are off.

10 Best Outcomes of a Global Reset

So let’s get started in no particular order.

1.  No more electronic bombardment.  No more mobile devices at the dinner table.  No more Netflix stealing your soul.  I would miss the NFL, but we all would miss something. We would no longer know what religious/ethnic group was killing each other on the other side of the world, that would be blissful.

2.  Becoming more connected to the natural world.  For me that would mean growing more food, foraging, fishing.  Relearning to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

3.  The current natural ecosystems could heal themselves for future generations. Yes it would come on the back of billions of human deaths, but nature has a way of re-balancing things and I’m trying to be positive.

4.  We Americans might be able to rid ourselves of the two ruling parties and start fresh. Unfortunately scum always seems to rise to the top, no matter hard we try and flush it down.

5.  The Kardashians would not make it.  Darwin would insert himself very quickly into the equation after TEOTWAWKI and those not fit to survive….would not make it.

6.  Weight lose the old fashion way.  When you have to hunt for food and travel by foot or bike it makes staying thin very easy.  The producers of the TV show “My 600 Lbs Life” won’t be happy about this.

7.  Less Narcissism – no more selfies, no more facebook posts about being at the gym, no more plastic surgery, no more “Hey look at me, I’m on TV.”  Maybe life after TEOTWAWKI would not be that bad after all.

8.  Traffic – need I say more?

9.  Less Jerks – in a post apocalyptic world you would have to ban together in order to make it.  People who are jerks would not last long…..thankfully.

10.  A different form of wealth.  Skills, food, shelter, clean water, barter items w0uld account for the new wealth.  The days of dead presidents would be behind us.

I have for many years tried to think of what the world would evolve into when the reset button was hit. I have read more posts, Top Survival Blogstories, and opinions than I can count.  I has been easy for me to think of how I would react to the scenario.  Who would I help and who would I not. Who would help me and my family and who would be the enemy.  So as I re-read the first 4 items, I realize that it is in our power to make those things happen now.  Will we? Probably not, but it is possible.  All of us can take steps to improve our lives and of those around us.  I would be willing to bet that most of you reading this already do.  The upsides to TEOTWAWKI are few and the downsides are many.  Let’s just hope that we never have to put into practice all of those scenarios that we are prepared for.  In the meantime, I will keep reading, studying, practicing, and preparing.

Hey Pineslayer! Great post. I like all the points but #5 is best. No more People magazine. Although I do miss World News Weekly while waiting in the supermarket line. Oops, no more supermarkets either.

pretty sad if we have to kill our children in order to turn off the tv

I’ll sadly have to disagree with #9. Depending on the nature of the collapse, we might have at least temporarily a good number of warlords controlling various territories. There warlords will most likely be the biggest of jerks, look at medieval Europe after the fall of Rome, lots of jerks.

ditto what he said. Being nice has never been a reliable survival trait. Jerks will take over because the compassionate will let them. Once they have the power, its game over again.

democracy is the only thing that keeps the jerks from ruling the land. even the nice jerks in history were jerks.

sorry, but only a good jerk can stop a bad jerk.

There are a lit of jerks at the top if the dog pile in the western world. So much for democracy fixing anything. As for those with compassion letting the dinks rule, you’re absolutely right. And it’s still happening. So much for the good ol’ US of A, that bastion of truth, justice, and freedom. Fail town.

Jerks will always make it. Doing what needs to be done is not what “good” people can usually do. And if you think not then someone else thinks you are a jerk and will think even more when you have food/water and they “aint got shit”

re; Jerks, positive thoughts. Right now we are ‘controlled’ by jerks. Republicans, Democrats, lawyers, …

Try and fun with this. Think politically incorrect thoughts, like no more tele-marketers or whiney cross-dressing ex-Secretary’s of State.

Your world is unicorns farting rainbows!!!

It would not be the age of Aquarius.

It would be the middle ages with death, kings and warlords. Not so much fun for the little guy.

So keep smoking the happy grass because that is the only place your world would exist. LOL!!!

Sorry for the shameless plug, but on my personal site at Professor Prepper, I address the antithesis of “happy SHTF.”

https://professorprepper.blogspot.com/2014/12/apocatopia-five-big-prepper-mistakes.html

Personally, while the reset button might appear as a viable opportunity, I have my doubts that anything good would come from it for years of not for ever.

Way too many people have spent way too much time building what we have today. Burning the place down to avoid minor inconveniences, while an interesting mental exercise, has many negative real world analogs including, at the moment, Nepal and Baltimore.

What is shameless is you plugging a site that you have not posted on since December 2014!!!!!

Just calling it like it is.

If there was a global reset, the resulting die off would be beneficial to the earth as it would reduce the amount of pollution and consumption rates. Rivers would become cleaner, etc. To consider that there is no benefit, even if you may die, is shortsighted.

Unless your one of those who die off.

I guess I must be shortsighted.

All of you are right, how often does that happen. It will be brutal, that is the way of nature. We have painted ourselves into a corner and few, in the ‘civilized world’, are able to make it probably.

As for the Dark Ages or the Middle Ages, things weren’t as hopeless as some people would have you believe. The Renaissance, look at the structures that were built around the world, many myths were dispelled, the Bible came into its own.

Yes there was much misery, have you watched any news lately? Pretty ugly in many parts of the world right now. 7.2 billion and growing, tic, tic, tic….

Didn’t the dark ages last about 1000 years before the Renaissance?

In George Stewart’s famous post apocalyptic book Earth Abides, one of the things that the survivors decided not to pass on to their children is religion and the Bible.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Abides

The logic was that they caused too much war and persecution in the past and the adult survivors did not wish that upon the future.

Interesting take, and not without controversy especially back in 1949 when the book was written. But the book was actually filled with religious references, names and symbolism.

Hitler and Stalin did the same thing!!

They replaced it with worship of the state, kind of like the Liberals in America today!

True. But in Earth Abides, 99.9% of the global population dies off leaving everything intact, food, water, houses, etc. The “survivors” through luck of the draw, simply met up, formed a little community and started reproducing like rabbits. One thing he did not really address was what happened to the millions of corpses all over the place… Still, a good book, but not realistic in this day and age…

I thought your post was very good, for so many of us outside the USA, we look forward to resetting the laws in Australia and NZ to allow for the real ability to defend one self being put into a written law for all, to have a new, better society free of the Kardashion circues and Master Chef on TV, to have men and women deal fairly with each other and respect honest work , morals and believe a marriaige is between one man and one woman..

As a Buddist/Shamanist, I believe that life is a circle, life and death are two sides of the same coin. I don’t think that life will be totally destroyed by human actions (or lack of), but we humans may join the endangered species list (or the extinct one) because we think that we are somehow better or above the flow of life. We are NOT! I believe that some kind of SHTF/TEOTWAWKI will occur, when, no clue, but change seems to be the only real constant that I can perceive. Will this be a human tragedy? My ego says yes! But, the main difference I see between the middle ages and now is information, did a peasant in the middle ages have any clue about electricity, or water conservation/purity, or even personal hygiene! So maybe, human life after SHTF may have a bright side! Sometimes the first step in making something better is to tear it down and start over again! Good Luck!

I’d add a potential number 11, a resurgence of faith. Which one is not important, but when society once again lacks a government nanny state to step in when things go wrong, grocery stores and pharmacies to expedite our day to day needs and electric light and heat to make our homes comfortable, the importance of hope and faith are restored.

Unfortunately I think the “scum” would “rise to the top” even faster in a post TEOTWAWKI b/c the weak would be weaker. Those “Kardashian’s” that would not make it would be quickly exploited and a less than honest group of leaders who cared nothing about exploiting the weak would rule the densely populated areas. The countryside would be different but it is also different, and better, today!

Good point. Watching the Walking Dead, I keep saying to myself, “Yeah, that would probably happen”. People under stress look for a leader and leaders are generally outgoing “people/people”. They can read and judge others and say exactly what they want to hear. before long he has them eating out of his hand and following every order, no matter how questionable. Only the strong survive. However, I do agree with several of the author’s points and have fun contemplating what would come of the scenario.

We humans, as we ignore the Holy Word of Yahveh, speculate, argue, discuss, and very possibly, hope for the arrival of TEOTWAWKI!
It is up to each of us to decide what we will do with the teachings of our Creator and Savior, Jesus the Messiah. It is the misuse of the Holy Bible, back in history and now, that causes so much cruelty and sadness! All the religions and denominations in the world are not worth a bag of beans if those religions do not preach the Word of the Living God, and do not follow the preached Word of the Living God! You cannot be a hearer only but a doer!
The Holy Scriptures, both the Old Testament and the New Testament spell out the end of this world and the beginning of the New Earth! Read it and find the Truth! Jesus said unto him,”I am that Way, and that Truth, and that Life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” John 14:6 Geneva Bible
