Today I am publishing an interview with Morgan Rogue. Morgan, for those of you that don’t know, is a regular contributor to Prepper Press sites, writing on everything from homesteading to prepping. That is, of course, in addition to her own site – Rogue Preparedness.

The Morgan Rogue Interview
#1 When did you start prepping and what prompted it?
It was years ago when I was at my friend’s house and the power went out. At the time, my cell phone was about to die and even though no one important was going to text or call, I still found it to be an issue that I wouldn’t be able to charge it. Also not knowing when the power would return and having zero resources was annoying. Though it wasn’t until I met my husband that I got seriously into preparedness.
#2 What is the one modern convenience you’d miss the most if society collapsed?
Probably streaming. We love sitting back and watching something at the end of the night to unwind.
#3 AR or AK?
AR
#4 If the world as we know it came to an apocalyptic end, what would the most likely cause be?
Self-destruction in some manner; war, famine, drain on resources, etc.
#5 What personal attributes will be most important after a societal collapse?
The ability to remain calm in any scenario. To think before acting. To lead. To teach. To act.
#6 What are you most pessimistic about for our future? What are you most optimistic about?
I’m most pessimistic about the way our society is headed. With cancel culture and outrage culture and Karen’s running amuck; society feels like it’s on the verge of being run by a communist totalitarian government. However, I’m optimistic about the fact that I’ve seen a huge number of people taking up self-reliance that I never thought would.
#7 Bug in or bug out?
For us, bugging in would be the most logical answer as we live on 40 acres. It would have to be some cataclysmic event to make us bug out. However, we still have bug out bags. But, you know, “just in case.”
#8 What is your favorite post-apocalyptic movie?
12 Monkeys. I know it’s probably not categorized as post-apocalyptic because of all the time travel, but they’re trying to fix the post-apocalyptic world that they live in.
#10 What is your favorite post-apocalyptic book?
I’m still looking… I’ve been a bit disappointed in the same thing over and over again.
#11 What do you think is the most overlooked items or skills most preppers don’t have?
Honestly, skills are overlooked in general. Time and again I hear that people store food but have no idea how to cook. Storing items is great and very, very helpful, but will do you no good if there aren’t skills to back it up.
#12 If you could only own one gun, what would it be?
My AR.
#13 What are your prepping pet peeves?
My biggest pet peeve is preppers who can’t just let preppers do things differently than they do it. Everyone has to conform to them and how they do things. Instead, we should be embracing new ideas and new ways of doing things. Sure, the old ways are great, but are so new ways. We should never stop evolving.
#14 What was the last thing you did to prep? (e.g. stock pantry, target practice, read a survival book, etc.)
Bought more seeds. I’ve been on a seed buying bender lately.
#15 Have you ever been in a situation where you had to utilize your preps or prepper know-how? If so, what was it?
I’ve been through many blackouts and hurricane close-calls. But actually, I use many of my EDC preps daily, especially with and/or for my kids.
#16 Why do you think the apocalypse is so popular right now in books, movies, television, etc.?
The apocalypse has always been romanticized. It makes for some amazing story to throw people into an almost impossibly viable world and watch them survive. It’s darn good entertainment.
#17 Name a prepper you hold in high esteem?
Oh so many. I really can’t name just one. I hold so many preppers in high esteem. They don’t have to have a YouTube channel, either. They’re just people that I’ve met in this great community.
#18 Do your closest relatives prep or do you prep for them?
I don’t live near any of my relatives, so I don’t prep for any of them. If I did, I would come to an agreement with them.
#19 What is the compelling advice/argument you’d use to convince a friend or family member that prepping is important?
The shortages seen during COVID-19.
#20 What is the most over-the-top/impractical prepper purchase you’ve made?
Gas masks. Just kidding. I like our gas masks. Actually, I’ve never made a purchase that I didn’t think was necessary.
#21 Outside of anything related to prepping, what do you have for hobbies or do for fun?
Hobbies? What’s that? Oh yeah, that’s that thing I used to have before kids. Lol I like to cross stitch funny sayings when I have time. I once cross stitched a 50 cal that said “hey you kids, get off my lawn.” Good stuff right there.
#22 Imagine it is one year after a devastating global pandemic hit. What does the world look like?
I had to think about this one. I’m sitting reflecting on the civil unrest and I can’t imagine it would be any different than what’s going on right now, except on a much more desperate scale. Protests and riots for food, water and shelter.
#23 Do any of your non-prepper friends/acquaintances think you are a tinfoil hat-wearing crazy person?
Probably, lol. I don’t really care, though. I don’t talk about prepping much with my friends or acquaintances. We enjoy the time together without a need for it to be all about prepping.
#24 Do you have any parting advice or wisdom you’d like to share with others?
Be as self-reliant as possible. Start a garden, even if it’s “only” micro-greens on your windowsill. Collect rainwater, even if it’s “only” in a 5-gallon bucket. Get into alternative energy, even if it’s “only” a portable solar panel. Learn about alternative medicines, even if it’s “only” 1 or two. Learn how to forage and hunt, even if it’s “only” for small game. Everything counts and everything makes a difference. Take it one step at a time. You got this.
