Survival Bunkers – Just for the Rich?

by Derrick James

Based on these few stories it would appear that building a bunker is all the rage amongst rich survivalists. I suppose I can’t blame them. If I had tons of cash I’d have one built, too – maybe even a high-end Las Vegas bunker mansion.

We’re not talking bunkers from septic tanks or culverts here, but the real deal!

Scope this action:

It may sound a lot of money for an unsightly steel cube, but Germans are queuing up to pay Ā£60,000 for the latest addition to the garden: a prefabricated nuclear bunker. With fears of terrorism, natural disasters and a cold war revival on the rise, a German company has tapped into the climate of insecurity and produced the continent’s first ready-made fallout shelter. ABC Guard – its name a reference to the protection it is said to offer from atomic, biological and chemical warfare – invites potential customers to “rely on absolute security made in Germany” as it restores an industry thriving on fears that have not been felt in the country since the withdrawal of Russian troops from former East Germany.

That’s about $120,000.00! A diagram of one of ABC Guard’s bunkers:

Ah yes, bunkers, a great way to protect you and your family from the evils that man has produced . . . but what about the evils BEYOND what man has produced? What about . . . . ALIENS!?

Tom Cruise knows (sorta). Check it:

Hollywood star Tom Cruise is planning to build a bunker at his Colorado home to protect his family in the event of an intergalactic alien attack, according to new reports.

The Mission Impossible actor, who is a dedicated follower of Scientology, is reportedly fearful that deposed galactic ruler ‘Xenu’ is plotting an evil revenge attack on Earth.

According to American magazine Star, a source said: “Tom is planning to build a US $10 million bunker under his Telluride estate.”

“It’s a self-contained underground shelter with a high tech air purifying shelter.”

A spokesperson for the actor has denied the reports, saying: “This is completely untrue. He is not building on his property at all.”

Made up crap by the media or the real deal? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t trust his “spokesperson” – if he WAS building a bunker, is he going to say so? Hell no! You wouldn’t either, otherwise when TEOTWAWKI hit every Tom, Dick and Jane would be bum rushing the bunker.

This brings us back to the question: Are bunkers just for the rich? Well, they’d better not be if you’re living in Israel, OR, you could explore the less expensive option the government is advocating – “rocket rooms”. Seriously, check it out, hot off the press:

Another reserve officer, Colonel Yehiel Kuperstein, added: “Protection of civilians must today be assured even inside their homes.

“There is no absolute protection, but the best possible sort is that of a room able to provide shelter” inside houses, he said, evoking the norms in force in Israel for several years which envisage each apartment having a room with reinforced walls able to serve as a shelter.

“Today in Israel only one third of apartments have such a room able to provide shelter… they have neither an air filter nor ventilation system enabling anyone to stay there for a long time,” Kuperstein said.

“Rocket rooms” . . . has a cool ring to it . . unless you really think about it – then it’s a little creepy.

It’s a German company, Anonymous. Six meters is about 19.5 feet.

I have always wanted a bomb shelter ever since I was in kindergarten. The news of the early 80s and all those wwiii mini-series and movies scared me to no end. When I can afford to build one or have one built I will. At the very least I will have one kickbutt storage room. šŸ™‚

I think that a bunker would be nice for some worst case scenarios. Also that is a lot of cash (even done on the cheap) to put down. If u’ve got the cash and want one then god bless.
