This is a guest post from Orion Tactical.
Our team at Orion Tactical has years of experience in life-threatening situations, perhaps one of the reasons why we love the thrill of a post-apocalyptic movie. One of our favorite post-apocalyptic films from the past couple of years is Mad Max: Fury Road. The movie, listed on Survive Doomsday’s complete list of post-apocalyptic movies, was released in 2015. George Miller was responsible for co-writing, producing, and directing the film. If you have yet to see the movie, we hope that our review encourages you to check it out!
Mad Max: Fury Road did exceptionally well with critics. The film earned the following ratings from reputable movie critic websites:
The film is actually the fourth in a series of films, although Fury Road is by far the best glimpse into how a post-apocalyptic world could look. The film focuses on characters who have survived the initial post-apocalyptic onslaught. They are past the point of searching for water, power, and oil. Instead, the characters are creatures of circumstance who no longer have any semblance of reason.
With known actors Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, we believe this film is a must-watch. We feel as though it accurately portrays what we could expect years into a post-apocalyptic world. Too often, films focus on the initial months or years after Doomsday has occurred.
One of the most interesting points about this film was the internal struggle that Max now faces. When preparing for doomsday, we’ve all been taught to have a survival plan in place with people who you can trust. But what would happen if these people did not survive as long as you did? This is the precise scenario that Max faces on his journey. Max is haunted by past sins, reminiscing of the things he needed to do to survive while on his own.
Max continues to remember the people that he could not save on his journey. The few travel companions that Max has helped keep him sane, but it’s apparent that he is teetering on the brink of insanity. In Fury Road, Max rebrands himself as an individual who wishes to carve a path on his own. His sole effort in moving forward is to outrun the ghosts of his past that haunt him day in and day out.
This film puts us far further into the future, certainly giving us reason to stop and think. The advanced CGI and booming sound effects allow you to feel as though you’re smack-dab in the middle of the action. The one conclusion that we reached while watching this film was that if we survive to see the world portrayed in Mad Max: Fury Road, we hope to have the proper equipment at our disposal.
Tactical Gear Seen In The Film
One of the things that we loved most about Mad Max: Fury Road is the accuracy of the gear used in the film. The fact that we could see tactical products with which we were familiar made the film significantly more realistic.
One of the perfect examples is Max’s drop leg holster. It’s clear that Max wears a Condor MA1 Tactical MOLLE Drop Leg Platform. This product features quick side release buckles, which would have allowed Max to detach the platform quickly without having to remove his duty belt. We also saw Max wearing a Condor Glock Holster. This ambidextrous holster would have allowed Max to hold a Glock Model 17 – 35 in the following calibers:
- 40 S&W
- 45 GAP
When watching the film, we also noticed some of the characters wearing paracord bracelets. This affordable tool is a must-have for anyone preparing for a post-apocalyptic world. X-Plore Gear allows customers to purchase two bracelets for less than ten dollars. The bracelet, which fits around your wrist, is an all-in-one device that provides you access to five different tools. Carrying these tools around your wrist makes them easily accessible. The tool provides you with:
- Up to ten feet of nylon cord
- A fire scraper
- A flint fire starter
- A compass
- A whistle
Another product that we frequently noticed in the film was tactical backpacks. It made sense to use that those in a post-apocalyptic world carried these packs, as they are designed explicitly for the elements. The best tactical bags are made of durable, weather-resistant nylon. They also feature numerous pockets with easy-access zippers, perfect for carrying everything from excess rope to weapon magazines. Users can also rig these backpacks for use with hydration packs.
The last product in the film that stood out was tactical vests. You should consider vests a critical part of your Doomsday survival kit. Tactical vests come with dozens of pockets and pouches that you can organize easily. Research from the University of Eau-Claire found that carrying accessories in a tactical vest is safer and healthier than doing so with a duty belt. Combining a tactical vest with a backpack could allow you to carry a significant amount of gear easily.
Did any other gear stand out to you while watching the film? Additionally, what did you think when watching the movie? Did you consider it a realistic depiction of the post-apocalyptic world that you imagine? Or were the cars, violence, and extravagant costumes a bit too over the top?
